Champ
Libre's Mission
Since its foundation in 1992, Champ Libre has explored processes
of creation and presentation which involve relationships between
architecture, public space and new media arts that provoke
encounters between art and the citizen. Resolutely interdisciplinary,
Champ Libre is interested in electronic art as a venue for
the convergence of new technologies and current practices
in contemporary art. Inspired by nomadism, Champ Libre privileges
the exploration of alternatives to conventional frameworks
of broadcasting and of the consumption of images which influence
our vision of the world as individuals and collectives.
The Manifestation Internationale Vidéo et Art Électronique,
Montreal (MIVAEM) punctuates the work of Champ Libre every
two years. Open to new tendencies and a plurality of expressive
methods , the Manifestation takes a critical viewpoint upon
current problems within the field of electronic media and
arts notably technological determinism and the position of
the artist as he/she faces this evolution. The Manifestation,
of whose every edition embraces a noticeably different character,
fascilitates an empirical development of expertise by means
of collaboration and diffusion of ideas. . Champ Libre proposes
to artists participating in the event a true research and
creative protocol that has electronic arts, architecture and
urbanism meeting within an in situ context.
